Candy Girl

The new pattern from Melissa of Dakine Knits is in final stages of testing.

The simplicity of this dress style is like a canvas, pocket, bow, embellishing, swing top, there are just so many possibilities. The dress has a snug fitting bodice with negative ease but, a tad large and you could layer it over a top or “t” as the weather changes.

My first test knit is size 18mo using Lollytree.

Unfortunately I’ve misplaced to tag to note the colorway.

Bodice and lace in Lollytree, solid stripes in Cascade 220

Candy Gir; 005

The second is a 0-6 month using Cascade 220 marls for the stripes and Inspired Mama Makes “Earthy Rainbow”  for accented straps, bow and lace

Earthy Rainbow Candy Girl 007

I have 2 more lined up

One is a custom using these wonderful colors from Raya Of Blissful Knits

I was thrilled when she said yes to creating mini skeins!

The greens are not showing correctly in this photo

From fellow etsian eweandmeyarns

I think I’ll do the bodice in the yellow or deep teal and skirting in the colorway……I can’t decide but I know this one will be finished with a bit of embellishing on the skirt.

These will be stocked with Jenny on Little Trunks Knits the 28th of this month

Test Knitting for Myself

Test knitting and it’s for me!

The “Painted Hills Shawl

Design by Raya of Blissful Knits

Painted Hills Test 003

I’m using a colorway of hers “Secret Garden” on

Blissful Knits & Dyeworks Cloud MCN Sock

I’ve drooled over this colorway for a while & as soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it…exactly what I would use it to make I wasn’t sure but, then I saw this shawl Raya designed and I just knew!

Although the colors are not that of the “Painted Hills” theme, they are perfect for my tastes and style.

Painted Hills Test 001

Raya is know for her intricate and detailed designs & I’ve knit quite a few of her designs over the past few years.  I have to admit reading the directions of her patterns and thought “what? No way!”

I’ve learned to just follow the directions and am always pleased with the results  & so far “Painted Hills Shawl is proving to be no different!

Sea Turtle Cali Cargo Set

Is in the mail

This was such a fun knit and one of my new favorites.

Sea Turtle Cali Cargo Set using “Sea Turtle” from Eco-Wraps, the Cali Cargo pattern from Dakine knits, also the convertible bloomers pattern from Carina Spencer.

Originally the Mama wanted a dress but there wasn’t quite enough for that so, we came up with this version as a swing top.  Coordinating greens and blues, finished off with an embellished   “Sea Turtle”.  I think it turned out cute!

“Moms Iris” Shrug and Bloomers

Iris bring back memories of my Mom’s gardens.  She seemed to always have purple Iris’ in her flowerbeds no matter where she lived…or where we traveled.  Iris’ still give me that warm  feeling of coming home and I now keep them in my own flowerbeds

“Fresh” Summer Shrug

It’s amazing what you can do with leftovers.

Last September I finished this YYMN custom.  I had a tad of leftovers, about 1.5 oz.  I always feel a bit uncomfortable when there is excess like this, I never know what to do with it & feel a bit guilty even when the customer says to keep it.  When the Mama asked me to make a spring shrug…well, I found a use for those scraps.

A sweet and simple summer shrug, embellished with the scraps of “Fresh” a wonderful colorway from “Green Strings”

Ribbing on the sleeves, hem & neckline trimmed with “Fresh”

Fresh Green SHrug 001

I’d saved all those little scraps and embellished a simple button flower

Fresh Green SHrug 002

And, with the bits remaining added to the back

Fresh Green SHrug 003

Making sure the design is flat enough it will not be uncomfortable for her little one

Fresh Green SHrug 004

I’ve found I love playing with leftovers!

A Few Things to “Finish”

As I’ve said before “finishing”, the weaving of ends and sewing on buttons drives me batty.  No idea why, it’s like the home run stretch and stopping right before you cross the finish line!  I’d been keeping up and weaving in ends as I went, I even was sewing buttons on before a garment was done…but I am a back slider.  I have a pile of items to finish.  Buttons, weaving in ends and a bit of embellishing is all that is needed.

Today is finishing day…..

a sneak peek for a YYMN Mama. This outfit will be done today

DYE & Sneak Peeks 005

& This shrug will be woven, embellished and buttoned!DYE & Sneak Peeks 006

If I can keep myself from casting on with this!
